I‘ve always been fascinated with cultural artifacts and transformation. In an ongoing series I photograph billboards, graffiti, personal notices, and the local iconography of new places that I visit. I montage the images and from the result I make sketches of what I think is important. Picasso and Cubism are a strong interest, and influence the cubist monsters that I draw. These drawings are recreated in lino and woodcut, and silkscreen. Sometimes I”ll re-use old images that I have etched as backgrounds and then overprint them with linocut, woodcut, or silkscreen. What I find most intriguing is how different methods of working, different colors and new combinations of elements are so transformative for a work. Each piece brings a new interpretation, a new meaning. My work is not about repetition, but (like DNA), recombination.
